Damn U David Stern and Double Damn U Clay Bennett

Posted on: April 18, 2008 3:35 pm

This blog takes material from an older entry...I just thought people need to know how much this sucks...It can happen to anybody, so keep hold of your team and expect to pay higher taxes to build a new stadium every 10-15 years...

I am blogging on this because I don't think this issue has gotten enough attention.  I am in no way affiliated with the city of Seattle nor with the state of Washington.  I feel this is highway robbery by corrupt officials who are in "The Club" and only look for themselves and close friends with money(lots of it).  I don't see how David Stern can even comment on this because it is easy to see that he has personal interests in this issue.  He is a close friend of the man who is at the forefront of this battle, Clay Bennett (insert derogatory statement here).

Clay Bennett bought the Sonics from the owner of the Starbucks with intentions of moving the franchise to Oklahoma City.  Seattle Citizens protested the sale but were reassured that the team was staying in Seattle.  What a crock of s***t.  The new owner began cleaning house by getting rid of all the talent on the team (Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis), and then asking the city for money to build a new $500 million stadium not even 10 years after the citizens agreed to fund a renovation of Key Arena with a $200 million price tag.  When the people said "Hell NO!!!", the owner stated that they don't support the team and he has his hands tied behind his back owning a franchise that was not making a profit.  He then revealed to the suprise of no one, that he had intentions of moving the team to Oklahoma City.

David Stern remarked on the subject that he did not see Seattle having a team in the near future if they were to leave after 41 YEARS of NBA participation.  He stated recently that he did not see a "miracle" that could stop the move of his long time compadre's new NBA franchise to Oklahoma.  Now I know one friend scratches the back of the other, but what is David Stern getting out of this?  It has to be a secret financial deal worth some serious coin because he is looking like the U.S. Gov't and Clay Bennett is Halliburton.

But the whole thing of it is who believes Clay Bennett enough to the point where he can have you thinking Seattle doesn't "NBA Cares".  He has to be extremely greedy or think the people of Seattle are idiotic when he asked for the new stadium.  The whole fact that he's a billionaire and didn't even offer to match the city dollar for dollar on the new stadium speaks volumes to the fact that he was moving anyway.  David Stern is enabling franchises to rob tax dollars from State and local jurisdictions to build new and "improved" stadiums while schools, crime, and the overall infrastructure could use those tax dollars for something else.

"The NBA, where tax dollars for school funding are used to whipe our A$$es."

Damn U David Stern and Double Damn U Clay Bennett

When Howard Schultz (Starbucks owner)  sold the team to Clay Bennett two years ago, it was no secret that this team was moving to Oklahoma City.  In fact, it was the worst kept secret.  That's why I find it laughable that Schultz is trying to void the sale in court.  Good luck with that.  How Schultz is not taking a beating for the sale is beyond me.  He sells the team to the highest bidder who happens to be from a city that is hot for an NBA franchise, and he thought the new owners would do everything to keep the team in Seattle?  Please. A person with an IQ under 50 knew the Sonics were as good as gone once that sale was approved.  I have  a hard time believing that Schultz did not know it also.

No doubt that Bennett and Stern are sleazeballs the way they went about moving the team.  And there is no doubt that this was planned from the very beginning.  You think that Bennett would have bought the team knowing there was a good chance it would remain in Seattle? No way!  They both saw an opportunity and took advantage of the situiation.

It boggles my mind that Stern would want to move a team in the 14th biggest media market that has no hockey to compete with, and take it to the 45th ranked media market.  All to get a better arena?  I know the NBA does not have the coin of the NFL (watch the LA story), but at least the NFL lends some money to teams to build new stadiums.  The NBA can't do this?  It just does not make sense.  For a smart guy, Stern sounds very unbelieveable and untruthful in what he is saying.  This whole sale and moving the team was orchestrated way before Clay Bennett bought the Sonics.

Plain and simple...

I cannot blame Bennett.  If I was in his shoes, I would have done the same thing (though not as sneaky).  Regardless, it is ridiculous how Stern is handling this.  I know he works for the owners, but this is just ugly.  Are they really that aloof to think a city can pay $500+ million for a new arena?

Sad.

Yup, big business is nasty, just plain nasty.  The lies and filth would make most want to shower if they were forced to actually sit in on a board meeting with these corperate thugs.  I've been through this sort of thing........twice!

I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio.  Was a huge Browns fan.....of course.  When people starting hearing about a possible relocation we all thought, "yeah right!  Like the Browns would ever move!  Who's next, the Packers?!".  Then Art said again and again that he would never move the team.  He PROMISED on caremera more than once.  The city of Cleveland has never exactly been rollin' in the money but did offer to fixe up Cleveland stadium before building new homes for the CAVS and Indians.  He said no, I'm ok.  What a piece of s___!  He lied all the way to Baltimore and city officials and fans were left with their thumbs up their butts!

Second, and this has more to do with tax dollars being used to build stadiums and how we (the tax payers)  have no f____g say in it......even when we do.  I was living in Phoenix when the deal went through to get the D-Backs.  Thing is, the people voted NO on using public funds to build the BOB (now Chase).  That's N-O, no!  If you're ever in Phoenix and you're driving down Jefferson st near downtown, you'll be sure to notice a giant stadium there that was built mostly with tax payer money.  Go figure.  They pulled out all BS this and that to push it through anyway.  Good ol' loop-holes.

Only in America.
